Reflection on Readings
My current job or occupation is as an associate engineer in facility team in the medical manufacturing company. Basically, I have several roles in my day-to-day routines which includes activities such as instrumentation and control and general safety assurance of the technical engineering operation of the plant. In my experience, Engineering department irrespective of the field specification it’s one of the fastest changing world job structure today. This essentially can be characterized as the effect of globalization on the entire world economy i.e. in infrastructure, technology, and internet (Leichenko and O’Brien, 2008).
In current work environment situation, the entire society workforce can be considered to have a consistent growth. In major developed and developing countries, the employed population rate is considered to be higher than the unemployed population number (Leichenko and O’Brien, 2008). Through globalization and industrialization, the scope of the employment market is considered to increase in competition in daily occurrences both between the employees and in relation to the businesses and/or companies’ performance rate. The technological and internet growth is one of the main factors that has contributed to the vast globalization increase over the years. One of the main challenges that globalization effect has generated in organization employee management has been diversification effect and increase in competition standards in service and products delivery (McMillan and Rodrik, 2011).
Today in most countries such as Singapore, unemployment issue is considered as one of the main economic challenges that over the years the government has continued to strive to eliminate without much success. Through this, one of the perceived situations in the future global workforce would be the increase of high unemployment rate in the global economy thus also resulting to a very high competition in the market (Spence, 2011). Majorly, the elimination of employment vacancies will be through technological advancement and ease in mass information sharing through the internet (Fox and O’Connor, 2015). Example, like in the engineering field there has constant technological advancements such as “3D PLC’S” which are able to performance high maintenance tasks in a plant with only a few employee team.
The advantages of future employment events include more effective businesses internationalization due to fewer restriction barriers and increase in efficiency in employee management. Through this, there will be also an increase in capital flow in the global market and thus similarly enabling labor movement among countries (McMillan and Rodrik, 2011) Some of the disadvantages include the high unemployment rate, high competition among the employees and companies, and an increase in economic “survival or sustainability” (Spence, 2011). Through this, I believe that in the line of my profession this can be a worry to me and anyone else in the engineering field in occupation sustainability and development.
One of the main action plans that I will emphasize on is the development of both personal and professional character changes for future aspects through a well outlined education plans and clearly defined strategic goals in life. This majorly will help me to succeed in my professional dream goal to be a fully accomplished Engineering manager. Also, with the current continuous changes in the management diversification especially in cross-cultural challenges. I intend to also build and enhance my employee relationship both on the personal and professional level. On the same note, my other focus will be the implementation and/or refreshing training in company guidelines and requirement changes such as policies and rules, labor roles, and the company values (McMillan and Rodrik, 2011).
