Hotel industry is responsible for providing best services to its guests.  It is the responsibility of different department to provide the better and timely services to its guests. There are various departments in a hotel but core departments are major responsible for satisfying the needs of the customers (Hotel Info, 2018). The report will analysis the major core departments of the hotel. These core departments are important in a hotel as brand name is responsible on the customer’s faith. Customer faith in turn depends on satisfying the basic needs of the guests. In order to satisfy the needs of the customers, different departments are responsible and each department is having their separate function the hotel. Further, the discussion is carried on functions that different department play in a hotel.Core departments of a hotel.
There are different sections of these departments. Front office department is divided into front desk and back office. Front desk includes the reception (this section is for checking the guests in the hotel), cashier desk (keep information of the checkout of guests in the hotel), information (this is for giving the varied information to the guest), travel desk (this department assist to the guests for arrangement of vehicles as well as their airplane and train reservations). The section of the back office department includes telephone operator (the persons in this department is responsible for all the phone calls), reservation desk (this section is responsible for the booking of the rooms).

Food and beverage department is divided into room service department, bar & lounge, Restaurant and Banquet department;
Housekeeping department includes Gardening department, In-house laundry, housekeeping desk, linen room, and housekeeping store;
Food production department is divided into different sections such as pantry section, south Indian, north and south Indian, Chinese section, bakery confectionary, butchery kitchen;

Reason for being core department
Core departments are the important department of the hotel. Hotel is responsible for providing good services to the guests. These departments are major responsible for delivering the services and best quality service is the major responsibility of hotel industry to deliver. A good interaction with the guests is necessary in a hotel industry. The core departments that put a positive impact on the hotel industry do the most of the interaction. Besides this, the maintenance and cleanliness is also a major factor that needs to be kept in mind. These core departments fulfil the maintenance and overall requirements of guest these are essential element of a hotel industry.
Functions of these core departments

Function of front office department-

At the time of check-in, front office department allot the rooms to the guest;
To manage all the phone calls of the guests;
To take the advance booking for the rooms;
The reception desk of the front office department is the communication centre of the hotel. It is responsible to check whether the entrance of the hotel is decorated or not;
Responsible for providing information to the guests regarding the rooms of the hotel and its facilities;
To ensure the timely collection of bills from the guest;
To maintain all the records of the hotel regarding allocation and reservation; and
To manage the diverse charges for all those services taken by guest during the stay (Henderson, 2018).

Functions of food & beverage department

To provide the services of beverages, food items and tobacco in a warm way to the guests;
To meet the demand of the guest by fulfilling their particular needs for food;
To deliver the food in less time and
To assure the proper polishing and cleaning of all the utensils, glassware and flatware (Pavillion, 2018).

Functions of housekeeping department

To maintain the laundry facilities for the staff members of hotel;
To maintain the cleanliness in the garden;
To maintain the laundry facilities for the guests of the hotel; and
To keep the cleanliness of hotel building, rooms and furniture (Ng, 2018).

Functions of food production department

To prepare the different dishes as per the need of the customers;
To take care of the food of the staff; and
To make the dishes as per the occasion (Lord Institute of Management, 2017).

From the above report, it can be concluded that the core departments are essential part of a hotel. These departments play an important role in the success of tourism industry. The cleanliness and proper maintenance of a hotel is necessary to ensure the guests happy and delighted. The core departments are required in every hotel that looks after the essentials of every guest. In this way, core departments are the important departments in a hotel that helps the guests from their check-in to checkout.
