Question:

The term “racial discrimination” shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.

Myths and stereotypes are a key component of racism:
they reduce a range of differences in people to simplistic categorisations
transform assumptions about particular groups of people into ‘realities’
are used to justify status quo or persisting injustices
reinforce social prejudice and inequality
Three out of four Indigenous Australians experience racism in their everyday lives.

(a) causes words, sounds, images or writing to be communicated to the public; or
(b) is done in a public place; or
(c) is done in the sight or hearing of people who are in a public place.
“public place ” includes any place to which the public have access as of right or by invitation, whether express or implied and whether or not a charge is made for admission to the place.

Answer:

Critical Reflection
In this week reading it was about racism and whiteness as the determinants to the indigenous health. Through this week I have learnt a lot about these aspects and how they relate to indigenous health. Racism could be defined as the organized systems which are within the societies and it causes unavoidable and unfair inequalities when it comes to power, resources, opportunities and opportunities across the racial groups (Delany et. al 2016). When it comes to whiteness aspects, it displayed itself in the outright post slavery through the imposition of the Jim Crow segregation. Whiteness on its own possesses numerous structural methods which made it to turn out to be part and parcel with the essential capabilities of each private and governmental institution in the country (Delany et. al 2016). To where we live, work, play it has broad implications to the health due to the social which relates to education, income, housing as well as environmental determinants of health. In some cases whenever the community you reside in lacks the healthy lifestyle facilities there are often a desire to taking the interest in amenities to the neighboring communities (Hernández et. al 2017).  I have learnt that racism could have impact on the health through various recognized pathways such as reduces access to the employment, housing and education and increased in the exposure pathways.
These aspects have an implication to my practice in the sense that there could be reduced access to the employment and sometimes causes increased engagement to the unhealthy behaviors (McPhail?Bell, Bond, Brough and Fredericks, 2015). This topic is important to the indigenous Australian since they have seen as marginalized groups and these individuals also need to feel part of the nations, as they are mostly not recognized and seen a minority.  This reading for the week has been crucial since I got to know the aspects to avoid which is part of the health determinants.
