Question:
Many believe that society advocates “being perfect” and living “happily-ever-after” through many avenues. According to the media and various elements of pop-culture, this should be an easy challenge. Several suggestions, however, often appear laughable and certainly “fairy-tale like.”
How do the media and pop-culture promote such expectations?
Provide two different examples of how this “search for perfection” and the “happy-ever-after” life is perpetuated by the media and pop-culture and demonstrated today.
Answer:
How media and pop-culture promote expectations of being perfect and living happily-ever-after.
Many people in the society articulate for being perfect and living a standard life. However, in the today’s society, the pressure of living a perfect life has conquered everybody’s mind and each one is looking at the ways to achieve the same (Amedie, Jacob,58). Consequently, it is important to ask where did the pressure and expectations of living a perfect life come from. There are two inevitable sources that this assignment is going to focus on. The sources include media and the pop-culture. The joy that comes with being connected to the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram among others is uncontrollable, however, the modern society tends to compare themselves with every staff they find on social media.
Very many people are connected to the social media including the rich and the poor. Consequently, there are several socialites who have money and live a luxurious life connected to media. These people post various photos on their social media accounts (Harris-Moore, Deborah, 100). Many young people tend to view those photos and feel that they are also able to make such an extent in life. Nevertheless, the notions portrayed in the mindset of young people is laughable. The reason is that many of these young people live in a society that has limited resources and achieving the perfect life and living the best life ever is unattainable.
Another instant in which social media promotes the notions of living a perfect life in the society is that media is full of fake materials and photos. For instance, one may photoshop having a luxurious life somewhere showing how getting to perfect life is as easy as walking around the park. The notions are impacted in people’s minds and this affects them seriously. Lastly, there is an instance where media promotes gambling and free gift showing the members of the society that getting money is as easy as dialing one, two and three. However, such steps are unattainable in reality.
Pop culture refers to the culture that is being experienced in today’s society. The modern culture is passed via media and corrodes people’s mind to fight for perfection. For example, several media programs in televisions and magazines often show men and women with perfect body size, slim and good looking (Hodkinson, Paul, 85). These images affect the young people today in that many of them go an extra mile to find why they cannot be like the people shown on the media. The powerful influence of the images makes several young people to bleach fighting to be seen brown the way men and women in the media look like. The second example is that the social media platforms such as televisions come up with discussions of the expected size of the body women should have, this includes even the figure. The fat women girls tend to look down upon themselves and try to find ways on how to become like the figures of women shown on the media platform.
The modern culture claiming digital issues have diverse effect in the society. Living a happy life ever is sometimes unattainable. However, pictures and the programs that the media show, like women with best houses, makeups all over the body have really messed the upcoming generation (Kidd, Dustin, 96). The methods other young people are using to achieve perfection is not vulnerable. It is therefore important for people to be satisfied with what they have in life.
