Anti-Oppressive Practice
In recent times, anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory perceptions have played a highly influential role on social work theory, practice and education. Some of the significant universal characteristics of such anti-discriminatory as well as anti-oppressive advances involve the power of Marxist, socialist and radical principles along with emancipative and feminist standpoints. However, these attributes are further recognized as the keystone of anti-oppressive and anti-coercion forms of practices (Mattsson, 2014). Furthermore, emphasizing solely on the diverse semantic variances of these perceptions tend to extend from traditional discourses. AOPs essentially purpose to alter the structure and systems of service delivery through macro transformations that incorporates both legal and organizational conversions (Hutchison, 2015).
However, regardless to wide ranging commitments by Anti-oppressive practices, there have been witnessed certain forms of constraints as well which tend to cause hindrances to the role of social workers. Furthermore, it has been observed that greater degree of prevalence acquired by Anti-oppressive practices both at domestic and global level tends to elevate high level of uncertainty related to the actual understanding of AOP (Luchies, 2015). There develops wide range of uncertainties related to the actual role of social workers’ in endeavouring to eradicate racial discrimination, sexism, prejudice on behalf of services users. Thus there is an essential need to attain an improved form of explanation on what practices related to anti-oppression primarily involve (Joseph, 2015). The following presentation will provide an explicit understanding of critical areas of limitations and constraints social workers encounter while performing anti-oppressive practices and whether the empowerment advances may be considered as a significant part of AOPs.
